What's the best Wordle starting word? We analysed all 8,636 five-letter words by how many common letters each one tests - and AROSE came out on top. Here's the data, the method, and the full top 20.
Method: coverage, not luck
We took all 8,636 five-letter words in the public-domain ENABLE dictionary and asked one question: which opener tests the most likely letters at once? For every word with five distinct letters (repeats waste a guess), we summed how often each letter appears across all five-letter words. A higher total means your first guess rules more of the alphabet's busiest letters in or out.
